@Craig I'd be curious to know if you are using the virtio disk driver, given my experience I mention in the answer below

comment Should the public website be inside the VPN, with its associated private website?
This tutorial talks about how to setup using NAT using iptables karlrupp.net/en/computer/nat_tutorial. The device that hosts the NAT, would have to be connected to both the internet and the private network. If you setup a private network connection on the Wordpress server you'd sort of defeat the whole purpose.

@Mridang Agarwalla did you ever get this to work? I've tried it this weekend and import request never completes for me, stays in Pending status forever.

We have no choice about using paravirtual. HVM is only available for windows and cluster compute.

I don't think this is right. EC2 images need to be running a Xen kernel. Also they use different device names, so fstab entries would need to be changed, maybe a few other things.

comment IPTables Rules Slow Connections to Bridge Interface
Of course I did! The kvm host runs dnsmasq and uses the local nameserver as the first in the list. I should have realized this but hadn't thought of the RDNS explanation. Thanks!

comment Ubuntu server, gpt partition table, mdadm, grub boot fail
@Peter I use Ubuntu, and if you do a guided partitioning the installer should set it up correctly. I know that it did for me with the 11.10 installer.
