comment Single backend, multiple outgoing ports in HAProxy
I thought as much, just wondered. Would be lovely to put in the backend server 5.6.7.8:variable rather than duplicate the set of servers for every backend just with different ports.

comment How do I give IUSR access in a domain?
This is the answer but worth noting some additional info: if the iis server is a domain controller, the iusr account will be a domain account. You will also need to set anonymous authentication to use the app pool identity.

comment Is it alright to turn off firewall in a LAN using Group Policy?
@Massimo that's why you do need firewall policies, because then you can only allow these ports from authorised machines on your network. Whilst you are no longer 100% protected, a worm is less likely to originate from a tech's machine than from a user's laptop.

comment ERROR 2013 when connecting to mysql via HAProxy
probably a red herring, but you don't need the option httpchk on a tcp backend, also in my own config I've commented out the option tcpka line. It was long enough ago that I can't remember why :)

Both servers 64-bit, only difference as far as I can tell is SP1. Both servers are still running, as haven't migrated all the old sites over yet for fear of further issues.

comment HaProxy - Http and SSL pass through config
Are you sure HAProxy is the cause here? The way you have it set up, HAP has no idea what is passing through it, so it can't adjust a HTTP header with the URL in. My first suspicion would be one of your servers acting strange. As you have it on source balancing, then that would explain why it only happens to some of your clients and always to just them. Try taking a server at a time out of the pool and testing yourself.

it won't be the httpclose because he's using tcp balancing. Also, looks like he's hitting HAProxy with the SSL traffic, there is no need to decipher the ssl at all, HAP can handle it with TCP balancing.

comment Are Rackspace's Cloud Servers really cloud hosting?
Rightscale and a lot of others also support Rackspace Cloud services now as well. I've always found Rackspace's offering much more flexible than any of the Amazon services and their support is unmatched in the industry. But each project needs it's own evaluation on where to get your infrastructure from.

comment Are Rackspace's Cloud Servers really cloud hosting?
Your are confusing their 'Cloud Sites' offering with their other Cloud services: Servers, Files, Load Balancers and DNS. Cloud Sites is a (theoretically) more resilient version of traditional shared hosting and not designed for real heavy lifting.

comment Mitigate DDoS attack with HAProxy
Do you need keep-alives enabled at all? Interestingly, it is claimed that upcoming 1.5 can deal with 200k connections a second and still let good traffic through.

comment High availability without dropping connections
HAProxy does support balancing at the TCP level. Not saying that HAProxy can do what the OP asked, but it can TCP balance.
