@TomTom: Sorry, I'm very new to Stack Exchange. I clearly misunderstood what "Enterprise storage, backup, and disaster recovery" covers. Thanks for showing me the way.

@frupfrup: ArcServe has an option to truncate SQL Server transaction logs, which we have enabled. Thanks though :)

comment Why is it so important to backup your transaction log?
@frupfrup: We're using ArcServe UDP, which uses VSS where applicable. We're performing incremental backups of the whole VM with all data in all volumes.

comment Why is it so important to backup your transaction log?
That's very helpful thanks. But given that I have an hourly backup of the whole server, I also have the transaction log and can restore the database to any point in time within that hour, right? The performed backups are incremental, so they should take excessively longer than if I was to only backup the log, I assume.

@RyanRies Would you be able to name a more preferable way to monitor the systems?

comment Why are only 16 GB of memory usable on our server?
Right, he could have. He just would have needed a PDF document full of screenshots for every single step of the way to perform it, just like he had for the firmware upgrade. But whatever

As I explained already, I wasn't on site, otherwise I would have.
