comment Can an Apache proxy send one request to multiple servers?
I made it Product's problem (I'm in Deployment :-P)

Yes, I accept it's pretty rare :) It's not too difficult to write, as I say in the question. It's a bit more tricky to make it work with a few million end points the other side of the proxies (and the number of simultaneous connections that implies) but it's a good fit for something like node.js

It's getting close, but not quite what I need. I need the responses to the multiple servers to be merged and if one (or more, in general, but it will only be one in my case) succeeds (2xx) then to return that. It's not clear what Gor does with the responses - drop them on the floor, probably?

Unfortunately it's not that simple. As I mentioned, the downstream servers are also proxies - and the actual destination server is one of several million devices. The actual device is behind one of the proxies, but I don't know which one. So I'm not testing if the proxies are available, but if the destination behind them is.

Thanks. After a (very quick) look at the manual I don't see how to send the request on to all downstream servers rather than load balancing across them, but I'll take another look

comment List VMs /vApps by date of last power-on
Thanks. "Idle and Powered Off VMs " - does that order them by date of last use? We have a LOT of VMs that are legitimately not used very often (it's for experimentation by various teams with our varied products), so just "powered off" isn't telling us too much.

I'll be honest and say I don't know (I'm a couple of steps removed from the people who need that report). Finding out....

comment Weblogic Admin server gets LDAP errors then unexpectedly shuts down
It turned out to be that Weblogic was shutting down when the developer who started it logged out of their terminal session. So the LDAP errors etc were nothing to do with it. With multiple developers, it wasn't clear to the others when the first one logged out. And it's only recently that we've needed to stop and start WLS a lot which is why it wasn't a problem before. We switched to starting the server with 'nohup' and the problem's gone away. Just one of those random things sent to try us

comment Guide to Apache performance monitoring and capacity planning?
Yes. I'd seen both of those. I could perhaps have been clearer - this is a site already in operation and load-testing isn't going to be possible. I want to retrofit some decent monitoring, understand when limits are getting close, and what to do about them. SO more about day-to-day actions than up front preparation

comment Specifying a specific source address for an Apache forward proxy
Thanks. Aargh. I searched for "source address" with a space, and for some reason it didn't come up in the google searches I did.

comment Standards for documenting/designing infrastructure
From a very quick look, it seems more aimed at the datacentre physical information, but it looks interesting. Without network paths, it's probably not a lot of help to me right now, but I'll keep an eye on how it develops. The pricing is a bit prohibitive too, if I only want to model a single environment.
