Dear Sameer, i updated the question and my htaccess. But even with php set to "public" isntead of "private" still there is caching problem. sometimes they show up as good, other times the return the full content. PS i cand find http headers in Firebug, is that a plugin for Firebug?

Hello! Change imgcpu ??? you mean in terms of its name or content? sure can do! p.s. now both work: imgcpu.php?src= as well as imgcpu?src=

Thanks very muuch Sysadmin 1138, clear explanation. But should I keep it, or delete this stuff in my htaccess? i heard namely, the more stuf fyou keep, the heavier / slower the server will respond... which rules might speed up when deleted / added?

sight, dear Dennis im almost feeling there is just no way to reduce that ugly code of the question any neater... after numerous tries each and every error i get with your otherwise NEAT code is:[Wed Dec 15 00:47:54 2010] [error] File does not exist: /httpdocs/IMG-folder_images is there any way i can test your code in a step by step method? Is it better to start a new topic since this topic is already answered: I started with urls with ? & string queries and now have statis urls. That part is done. second part is to beautifyl the code. So I think its better to migrate the bonus 2nd part!

true, but what all file names do have in common, is that they have a width or height or both set no filenames will have _w[number] or _h[number] or both as part of the filename !! does this give me any credits for being consistent?

Brainwave: so, the distintive separation between filename and query is formed by either the _w[number] or _h[number] or both _w200_h200 !! see also note i left just a minute a go on Marks reply.
