comment FreeBSD with nginx can't connect networks after running for a while
Yeah, that's might be good suggestion. Grep /var/log/messages for something like watchdog time out and other messages from your NICs' drivers

pf have state table that can overflow: use pfctl -sa and watch LIMITS

mbufs, open files, somaxcon etc... there is too many limits in OS that you can bump in.

comment Problem with GWT behind a reverse proxy - either nginx or apache
i think nginx has some different behavior depending on closing slashes in proxy_pass directive, so you can play with it

comment What permissions / ownership to set on PHP Sessions Folder when running FastCGI / PHP-FPM (as user “nobody”)?
1. Use same user:group for nginx and php-fpm (via either nginx.conf or php-fpm.conf), so you can keep this directory 700. 2. Use chown -R nginx:nobody /var/lib/php/session && chmod -R 770 /var/lib/php/session so i think both nginx and php-fpm can use it

comment I'm designing a system to handle 10000 TCP connections per second, what problems will I run into?
UDP has it's drawbacks, like sender and delivery verifications, so one should consider them before using UDP in production.

comment Upgrade FreeBSD ZFS system to larger drives
IMO, drive-by-drive migration from 250Gb drives to 2Tb is the best way to increase raidz capacity

There is always something that you can't install from packages, so you need to use ports instead.

comment Where to find symmetric NAT?
not rc.conf, but pf.conf, you also need kldload pf and pfctl -e for nat to start working. Also read FreeBSD hanbook about handling pf firewall

comment How to install DHCP server on FreeBSD 7.2?
Because for 7.2-release there is only isc-dhcp3-devel is accessible via packages that is in unstable branch at that time. And stable release 3.1.2p1_1 can only be accessible via ports.

You can also use something like Dynamips or GUI utility like GNS3 ( gns3.net ) to emulate cisco devices, using IOSes from ISOHunt.com, and connect virtual cisco network to the real one.

comment Samba Read Performance
Hmm.. the only thing that i can now suggest you is to play with aio read size = XXXX, read size = XXXX and use sendfile = Yes parameters in smb.conf

comment Is it possible to use bittorrent for a fileserver
now, early in the morning (7am in Russia) I have 5,000 entries in netstat and 40,000 entries in firewall's state table, so i think it'll be about x5 more at weekend's evening. While we we testing previous server we stressed it out to 50,000 requests to XBT Tracker. Developer of nginx server, Igos Sysoev, tuned FreeBSD to handle 200,000 requests on single webserver.

comment Is it possible to use bittorrent for a fileserver
mmm... very disputable statement, I have Torrent Tracker with 46,000 of torrents and 250,000+ peers on a single box. It's still very far away from it's limit and i think this limit is more likely be php-based forum on same box. Rightly tuned FreeBSD has VERY good network performance.
