I am a dedicated generalist Junior Systems and Network Administrator with most of my experience in the public sector. I primarily work in the Microsoft ecosystem but my passion is for Linux and other F/OSS software.

I believe in voting and you should too.

comment Is it advisable to use virtual Linux server installed on i5 / 8GB / 500GB desktop class computer?
See this answer. Much of the same problems exist when using "desktop" computers as servers as when people assemble their own servers.

comment SCCM Reporting - “Report Builder click-once application does not exist on the report server”
@BigHomie - Yeah. We ended up just using the web interface for all our reporting needs but this was back at $JOB-1 so onto a different set of intractable problems. Thanks anyway.

comment Windows Server 2012 Migration (DNS/AD DS Standard Eval to Essentials OEM) P2V -> Do I need a Secondary Domain Controller during migration?
@AubreyRobertson - Additionally if you have a standard domain and only a single domain controller you could easily create a second one just for the purposes of the migration as long as that is supported with Windows Essential. (RE: your licensing question)

comment Windows Server 2012 Migration (DNS/AD DS Standard Eval to Essentials OEM) P2V -> Do I need a Secondary Domain Controller during migration?
@AubreyRobertson - I don't know. I have spent all my time with regular Windows Server. Windows Small Business Server / Windows Server Essential are very different beasts. See Deploying Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials in an Existing Active Directory Environment. You might want to go re-read the docs and come back and ask a more targeted question. All I can say authoritatively, is in a standard domain you should have two domain controllers.
