comment How do I set up a named virtual host on ubuntu with proxy pass?
ok, just did all that, but browser gets 500 error, and the apache error log says [warn] proxy: No protocol handler was valid for the URL /favicon.ico. If you are using a DSO version of mod_proxy, make sure the proxy submodules are included in the configuration using LoadModule.

yeah, a singel username / password that everyone would use would be great. I'm aware of the lack of security, but they would have to find it first, right? maybe I also need a way to keep search engine crawlers off of it. This is what I'm running: yardoc.org The server it comes with is not very featurefull.

comment Need help trouble shooting Https webserver error - SSL Handshake failed
SSLProxy is only mentioned once on that link. No examples of how to use it. I changed the request header to be set X-Forwarded-Proto 'https'... but it still doesn't work / I get the same error. Going to localhost:3002 also gives the same error

also, no guide I've ever followed has said RAILS needs a certificate for apache to connect to it. It's just apache that needs the certificates. =\

how is it a rails issue? in my app, I don't want standard http, so I just redirect to the https equivalent of the same URL.

Well, we can't turn off https in rails. Teh problem isn't in rails, it's that rails is still receiving an http request, and therefore is redirecting (but apache is forwarding https requests to http, hence the redirect loop). How does one use SSLProxy?
