comment Install specific version of package (postgresql) along with most recent version on gentoo
no, but I run --depclean without thinking it will remove the previous version (and without paying enough attention to the list, there were just too many things, lazy me!)

the "slot" keyword helped me find this related question: unix.stackexchange.com/questions/12427/…

and fantastic reference to "slotted packages" in gentoo. This I didn't know and it definitely clarifies the concept. Now I'll play with the cli to find the easiest way to select the ones I need...

great tip for quickpkg. I should just make a list of my most-critical packages and always quickpgk before upgrades!

comment How to write a DRY, modular nginx conf (reverse proxy) with named locations
I did not know about map - or at least I had never noticed and thought I could use it like this... let me ponder a little more about this and see if I have additional questions/comments!

thanks @voretaq7 and frank for the clarification! It might be useful to update that answer then to avoid readers' errors and possibly downvotes (though that wouldn't touch your reputation :) )

comment apache+mod_wsgi configuration for django project(s) on a quad core
Also follow up here: groups.google.com/d/msg/modwsgi/20XG3rBLsFw/A0BHYFYRu-oJ for my personal situation! Sounds like Graham is, of course, really busy (mod_wsgi is a free side project!) but moving to Read The Docs sounds great, and solving that one backlog issue would be totally awesome. That and the new Apache 2.4 might make me reconsider the best combo (currently nginx+gunicorn, then I might drop nginx for a varnish+apache+mod_wsgi setting)

I don't know why you got downvoted 3 times and without any comment. This is not a very good stackexchange etiquette! Sorry for this bad welcome.

comment HAproxy subdomain redirect
haproxy can very well redirect both prefixes (subdomain/domain/etc.) and urls. Search for redirect location and redirect prefix in haproxy.1wt.eu/download/1.4/doc/configuration.txt

comment Optimize number of workers for several gunicorn instances
Thanks! I guess that "ensure your application can consume 100% of the CPU at any time" is actually... BAD if I want to keep some spare resources for a database and some async jobs, isn't it? On the other side is "1" too little and it can result in often-blocked gunicorn because of one intensive request?

a 'gunicorn' tag does not yet exist on server fault?! How so? Please somebody with good rep. go create it!

comment Memcached memory usage
Thanks for the telnet tip, but what should I really read in there? I see STAT bytes 9857275 STAT curr_items 43599 STAT total_items 1048925 and I have the impression that my memcached is never filling up...

For everybody reading, I found these messages very relevant: deadlocks, debug and mod_wsgi 4‌; premature end of script headers and WSGIApplicationGroup; and about mod_wsgi 4

Thanks! I think you really nailed what happens... I'm jumping to the mod_wsgi mailing list straight away. If i don't get updates I'll assume (for other SF readers coming here afterwards) that my apache2/mod_wsgi settings are otherwise fine.
