comment Purpose of -r option in chown
@MarkHenderson It may not be a big deal to you, but I have trashed a server with a similar typo. Fortunately it was cleaning up after an upgrade, and I had good backups, so I only got to start again from scratch. I left work late that night.

/~? It works perfectly without the /, and you don't risk applying it to / ~ due to a typo.

comment BASH quoting for sudo su user -c
You can think of sudo without specifying a user as being the same as running sudo -u root - it runs the command as root, inheriting root's environment (with a couple of well documented exceptions). Changing the user will inherit that user's environment and should be the same as using su. If you have any doubts, test it. Also, seriously consider making it a small script - if you need to do this more than once it's worth the tiny bit of effort. Plus, if you're worried about it, you can easily stick chmod 400 at the end to force the correct permissions.

comment Debugging Cacti
Sounds like it's being confused by the output:. Cacti expects field1:value1 field2:value2 ... and is seeing a field called output with a value of dc:1.

comment How to correct Postfix' 'Relay Access Denied'?
I'm not saying that he should disable tls; I'm saying that since he has already disabled it he then needs to setup mynetworks. And that the full solution is to get tls working again.
