comment What are the arguments for and against a network policy where the sys admin knows users passwords?
@David, that's very true. as a sysadmin, we should be very aware of the importance of confidentiality to earn that trustfulness.

comment What are good ways to have a backup and fail over for a single exchange server in a domain?
@Robert, yes, I understand. If SAN isn't an option, which isn't really expensive nowadays anyway, make sure store VMs in the external detached storage so it can be easily attached to the new server when the old one fails. And that storage of course has to be RAID'd.

In order to make it work really well in Virtualization environment, you will need a SAN to store all your VMs.

comment Hosted form of web-based file transfer tools
I voted this question up because I am simply looking for a self-hosted solution similar to yousendit.com. So far I haven't had any luck hunting down a program like this. So I would appreciate if anyone can share their experience here.

comment virtualization question
the chances to reboot a Vista machine is very higher than a windows 2008 machine that hosts Hyper-V because I am assuming you will be using Vista for other tasks as well. Agree, for testing purposes, huge space with tons of RAM is already decent. :) however, if you plan to test the performance to get the benchmark as well in lab, you may need the real server instead of workstation.

comment Email Archiving in an Exchange Environment
One comment on user education. If you wait for that happen you may never be able to move forward. In my case back in 2006 when I suggested mailarchiver, we pushed out email retention policy out at the time we implemented the mailarchiver. It's a huge relief after. Managing email server with much smaller mail storage is much better and easier.
