A CA can restrict itself to certain domains with name constraints, but applying constraints retroactively to someone else's CA is a different matter.

You don't need to generate a new key. You can just get a new certificate for your current key, as shown in taco's answer. It doesn't matter either way, though, except for burning a few CPU cycles generating prime numbers.
