comment What's actually requested when alias is set up in Apache with CNAME?
One catch, that only sometimes matters but mostly with emailing, is the reverse lookup (from IP address) will get the canonical name. So the forward and reverse names won't match.

Be sure to fully qualify the CNAME by putting a final dot (.) at the end. default.mydomain.com.

comment How to allow the internet to view my website on http://192.168.x.x (IP address behind router)?
However, it may still not work if your router gets a dynamic IP address from the carrier. In other words, your external address can sometimes change. You may also want some kind of DNS entry to point to it by name.

I don't think you need to worry about that. Network contention is the limiting factor.

comment Monitoring VMware ESXi (free) vs. vSphere
@Red Tux No, ESXi uses an embedded Linux as console OS, not RHEL. Only ESX (non-i) has RHEL and full shell as console OS. The shell is ash, not full featured. You can get a shell, and enable ssh, but there is not very much you can do there.

comment Which Unix book or pdf would advanced users like to keep with them?
They are called "man pages". Also, if you run Linux, the files in /usr/src/linux/Documentation are a good source.

comment VLAN help on ESX 4/vSphere
When you say the NIC is added to VLAN 153, do you mean the VM NIC is set up that way, or the virtual switch in the ESX?

comment Correct way to give elevated privileges to mono application?
I think some custom udev rules would be the best way to hook into USB insertions. The rule would call a script to perform those actions, or call your program.

comment Connecting two computer on different sub-nets
True enough. It would probably be better to enter static routes to the other network. But that's slightly more complicated. DHCP can also be configured to supply those static routes.

Thanks for the info. This is single Foundry (now Brocade) switch but has other switches attached, spread out in some ad-hoc topology that nobody knows. It is not a redundant configuration. It seems that running single instance spanning tree should be fine in this case.
