comment Removing default “ubuntu” user from Ubuntu Install on EC2
@BillR That's a different concern though? I'd never share the same user account among different people. But that's something you will have to setup and no one is keeping you from it. We use chef to achieve the same.

comment Can a pool of memcache daemons be used to share sessions more efficiently?
This is a pretty cool breakdown, though there are rumours (aka bug reports) that this doesn't work as expected when you use ext/memcache version 3.x. We're playing with that option as well and I decided to loop through the server list and write to it myself.

CouchDB and memcache have different loglevels – maybe you can set "debug", somewhere?

You did not share how got the information which you used to connect to Couchbase. You said you used a username and password and I didn't know where you got that from. Pretty harsh to downvote this and it doesn't make me want to help you further.

comment SELinux causes “Permission denied” when starting lighttpd+fastcgi via upstart
That's interesting – what else does getsebool -a | grep httpd show? It's weird how httpd_can_network is related to a socket. getsebool should have a bunch of cgi options too. Maybe those help?

/var/run is the convension for these things – /var/lib is for libraries. As for upstart vs. plain sudo, that is a good question. I was assuming only that upstart could not write them. Did it help? Or not at all.
