comment Best AWS Architecture?
Good call. To make an ELB even more redundant you can specify that it runs in multiple availability zones: docs.amazonwebservices.com/ElasticLoadBalancing/latest/…

comment Trouble accessing port 25 on an EC2 instance
That is probably an easy fix: Make postfix listen on 0.0.0.0 which means it'll listen on all interfaces. The reason is that you can't make it listen on the "external IP" anyway. And if you bind it to the private (10.x.x.x) interface then it's only -- well private. :)

comment Should I turn off swap on AWS EC2?
Can you share where you read that /swap is not required? I know that some AMIs have /swap disabled. E.g. the alestic ones used to come with swap disabled. I never understood the reason.

comment Is it possible to install precompiled Ruby versions with RVM?
Been looking at the docs for a bit, all of this will be compiled. I guess the problem is that due to its very custom nature it's hard to offer binaries in this case. E.g. binary packages on Ubuntu follow a distinct layout -- e.g. REE, they install to /usr/local and you can't change.

Can you share how you use rvm? E.g. rvm install ree?
