Yeah, nano seems to be about the best you can get on linux. Strange that nobody's jumped on the opportunity to build a Textpad for the command line.

I'm fine in VI, but really I only find myself in a Linux shell about once every six months. Step one in VI is to start typing and issue 15 random commands before accidentally typing I to start inserting, followed by an hour of research on the web to learn how to undo the commands I've accidentally issued. For my sanity, I'd prefer to have something that mimics the way that every text editor for every other OS (and every browser text field) does it.

Agreed. A simple "show me all queries taking over 200ms to run" filter will uncover a lot of low-hanging fruit. Every application has a few of these long-running queries that can be tuned down to a few milliseconds once you know about them.
