Also, my problem was that the client was using the short server host name in the connection string, one should always use a FQDN.

comment Estimate daily network IO between 2 servers
@JYL Yes, by default it captures to memory, but if I do a longer capture of several gigabytes I set it to capture to files of a few hundred megabytes each in the 'multiple files'-dialog, I have never tried importing files of more than around 1 GB. If you expect that your application consumes more than a few GB a day I would probably find another tool.

comment How large is “too large” for SQL 2008 Web Edition?
The most important difference in basic database functionality that I see between Web and Standard edition according to the comparison chart is the lack of SQL Profiler in Web Edition, I don't know if is possible to attach a remote profiler, but if not, lack of that feature alone would disqualify it from my environment.

comment Nice tool that will backup databases & logs and truncate logs?
Web Edition should have SQL Agent.

comment Restoring a backup SQL Server 2005 where is the data stored?
Sorry about the formatting on the comment, also, this was on a system with no third party utilities for backup/restore installed.

Hi squillman. I just verified my answer sucessfully on a server running SQL Server version 9.0.4053 as follows: xp_cmdshell 'net use x: \\server\share /user:<user> <password>' GO RESTORE DATABASE [test2] FROM DISK = N'X:\<filename>.bak' WITH FILE = 1, MOVE N'MOM_DATA' TO N'D:\Default_DBData\test2.mdf', MOVE N'MOM_LOG' TO N'E:\Default_DBLog\test2_1.ldf', NOUNLOAD, STATS = 10 GO
