We've got all sorts of names for ourselves these days: sysadmins, engineers, operations, devops, appops, hiphops. I'm just a guy who helps support whatever has electricity.

I also dabble in software development and love figuring out how to automate everything — I'm trying my hardest to turn my entire job into a single shell script run from cron every 5 minutes.

Can't the load balancer do the security instead of Apache?

comment Cisco ASA blocking traffic from DNS server
Just a suggestion, but you might want to remove any line with "password" or "passwd" in it. Cisco passwords can be decrypted fairly easily.

comment Active Directory Subdomain vs new “Tree in Forest” … is there a difference?
Why not use OUs in that case? OUs are "separate" containers by most accounts.

comment Dell MD3220i Multipathing
Tagging onto someone else's question, but: All of Dell's docs recommend separate subnets per port/link. Are you doing that or putting each putting them all in the same subnet (with different IPs, obviously)?

We're researching the same thing right now (with similar disk space sizes). So far mimecast.com seems to be the best choice for archiving, but haven't really been sold on it yet.

Agreed, but it's a good first test to make sure the service is running and correctly responding.

comment How can i enable telnet on ubuntu 10.4
If you can telnet to localhost, then telnet is working fine. The next step is to try to telnet from another host on the same subnet (something with a 10.0.11.x IP).
