comment Outlook Autodiscover - authentication to IIS fails as domain is mail.contoso.com not contoso.local
hold fire; it might not be working. It did a once, now it's only accepting user@domain.local again...

I beleive Autodiscover is called regularly, or at least, when there is a connection failure, or when you open the Mail control panel applet. After all, how else can you take a laptop off the domain network and it seemlessly swaps over to WAN access using different hostnames)

This is the most realistic method proposed so far, but if I'm going to phone the user up and tell them the new password over the phone, which no doubt they'll write down.. I might as well inconvenience them less and just obtain their current password myself over the phone.

I like this solution, however, most of them cost money to use. And with a full Microsoft server/client architecture already deployed, it would be nice to use the built in methods.

The problem with this is that I could lose any unsaved work on the users desktop. Also, the whole exercise is configuring something on behalf of the user on their own profile.

also tcp 3389 would only allow 1 computer to be accessed. RWW would allow any computer to be rdp'ed into.

How? Under the Account tab, it has ULN option, but the domain part of the UPN is a drop-down choice with only the 1 choice; contoso.local :( How do I add contoso.com as UPC alias please? Many thanks.
