comment High throughput meshed VPN to connect datacenter hosts
Thanks so much! Combining your advice, I used the native IPsec implementation with racoon. I tested on small single-core machines first, and already throughput increased by 50% and latency dropped to about 60%. I'll confirm it on the Haswell nodes next week and will accept the answer then. I need to figure out though if AES-GCM is supported in the kernel, and how to signal it to IPsec.

comment Difference between `curl -I` and `curl -X HEAD`
To be fair, I can follow the logic of the ticket response: --head does provide us with a valid implementation of a HEAD request, and -X <method> simply overrides the HTTP method in the request.

comment Nagios bizare ping behaviour
On debian, the nagios-plugins-basic package (provder of the check-host-alive definition) also defines check-host-alive_4.

comment Percona-Cluster: backup and restore procedure
SST is rsync (see first line). Thanks for the analysis, I'll check the innodb_data_homedir variables. Tablespaces are on SSD, hence the non-standard setup.

comment Apache mod_cache and mod_deflate?
Netscape 4.0x was released in 1998, and even Microsoft celebrated the death of IE6. I agree it's time we move on :)

comment Glassfish behind Apache reverse proxy: Mod-jk or HTTP?
My understanding is that mod_jk can ping the downstream instances independently to detect and handle backend failures before a user-request comes in. Need to see how high that ranks with performance.
