@DuPie - The proc and dev directories get created on boot, you do not need to back them up. @evan - you are partially correct. Depending on the bootloader there may be more of it around elsewhere. Grub however does store the entire stage 1 in the first 446 bytes of the drive. Though yes, reinstalling the bootloader is safer, especially if it doesnt reside in the MBR, but on a partition.

He stated that there is another router on the network. Systems will try to obtain their last IP when doing a DHCP request. The DHCP server which gave that IP previously out will answer immediately so he wont get an IP from the router he's trying to find.

The mount command shouldnt output anything, thats a good sign. After that you need to edit /etc/fstab. I dont know the particulars of your setup, but if youre using an initrd, the initrd might be auto-assembling the array, and then once the its assembled it tries to read the /etc/fstab and this fails. However this is all general linux info. If you dont get a good answer here, you might try ubuntu's forums.
