comment How can I copy a LVM logical volume to a loopback file on another system?
Is there anything related to the failed mount operation in dmesg output?

comment install MySQL Server 5.0 on CentOS 6.3
Why not to use 5.1.x as a slave of 5.0? It's perfectly OK. I used to use 5.5.x as a slave of 5.0.x without any problem.

I usually set MaxRequestsPerChild to 4000 or 5000 but 20000 should be OK too.

comment Chef recipe to install varnish 3.0 on ubuntu lucid?
You should try to execute apt-get update on the node manually I guess. apt cookbook does not always do that in right times, I often have problems with it.

What if you set an explicit version of the package using version attribute? Could you please also post chef-client execution log somewhere?

comment Why is my AWS instance not reachable?
Not exactly wrong but just too restrictive, you only allow incoming connections from sg-.... which I guess is related to your Amazon infrastructure but not the public web. You should a set of rules to allow hosts from 0.0.0.0/0 to access certain TCP ports or to ping the hosts in this security group.

comment Apache optimization - prefork MPM
Well, the problem with big MaxClients settings is that if traffic increases when more users come nothing will prevent Apache workers from eating all available memory and swap. Your server will become effectively unreachable then. So I highly recommend to put a sane cap there, and 80 looks reasonable.

Well you seem to be dropping all incoming connections

comment iptables not allowing outgoing packets on 1194
It is not clear from which host these iptables rules are. Is iptables configure on the server or on the client?

Could you please post an output of ps axf | grep httpd when you have 2k conns (I highly doubt you can have 2k truly concurrent conns in this environment)? A real number of concurrent connections is close to the number of concurrent Apache processes.

comment Service modules_dep on CentOS 6.3
I've never heard of this daemon and quick googling for "module_dep" shows your question on SF as a result #1, could you please provide more details like ps ax and which module_dep, etc?

comment Hostname forward to port
Well so you need a layer 7 (protocol aware) proxy then. If the protocol is HTTP you can use nginx for proxying different domains to different ports.

comment MySQL hot backups on database inside a Virtuozzo container
If you don't use native MySQL full text search you can convert them to InnoDB easily (and I strongly recommend to do it because MyISAM storage is just not crash safe). Please note that conversion process locks tables so they are effectively offline during conversion phase so it's better to perform the conversion as soon as possible while you don't have much data.

comment Apache2 decides to ignore the ErrorLog location. How to fix?
Well since settings are per virtual host it's better to modify that file I think.

comment Apache2 decides to ignore the ErrorLog location. How to fix?
I suppose you are on Debian or Ubuntu, please check /etc/apache2/sites-available/default, your default VirtualHost configuration is right there.

comment Hostname forward to port
Hmm port redirection is domain agnostic, it will forward all incoming traffic to another port. This is by design, redirection works on network layer 3 and domains are network layer 7 thing. So you are probably doing something wrong, why do you need to explicitly provide a domain name to redirection rule?

comment Hostname forward to port
Why don't you just listen on that port without a redirection then? Anyway iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -p tcp --dport $srcPortNumber -j REDIRECT --to-port $dstPortNumber should help. Please substitute eth0, $srcPortNumber and $dstPortNumber with real values.

comment Hostname forward to port
Hmm, it looks like your software resides on the same server your domain points to (from your comment above), is that true? There are two different iptables commands for forwarding the port to the same server and to the other server.
