comment In *nix, how to determine which filesystem a particular file is on?
You need to go though all the device files in /dev/ and look up one with the same minor number as stat reported.

The configuration state files are written in yaml/jinja2 and can be extended in python. It's a huge thing for me, since I won't have to learn ruby or the puppet manifest language. Also, Salt can both manage configuration and execute remote commands. So no need for another tool in case I need to run something on multiple machines (for example restart nfs clients).

Yes, asking on a fc-related site could be a better option... I updated the question, thanks for the feedback :)

comment Giving a new life to an old SPARC machine - boot and install related problems
Great! I saw some Sun monitors in one class in my Uni, so I'll try to get my hands on them if I fail with the serial cables. As for the 9-pin to RJ45 cable, I've seen a couple of those so the box on top seems a less problematic to get to work. As for the OS - can I run FreeBSD on that? It's a SPARC64, right?

As I am already home now and will see the machine again tomorrow I will provide more photos and exact numbers then. Thanks for your interest :)
