I was a Windows programmer (15 years of C++, C#, SQL Server), but I took a leap of faith and now I'm a backend software developer, using Erlang, at Electric Imp.

comment Is there a downside to always updating DNS from DHCP?
"By enabling Always dynamically update DNS A and PTR records you are telling DHCP to update both records even if the client only asks it to update the PTR." ... and is there a downside to doing this?

"I need to reduce my software stack". Why "need"? Box got too much stuff on it? Installation instructions too complicated? Cognitive overload? Something else?

comment How do I select an OID for my MIB
Make sure you don't collide with any OIDs that UW is already using. iana.org/assignments/enterprise-numbers/enterprise-numbers lists contact details for the person responsible for the enterprise number. You should contact them and ask for a chunk of the space assigned to UW.

Perfect! I'm trying to generate a one-off CA / server certificate chain for unit testing, and it needed to be scripted.

comment DHCP Post-Install configuration wizard hangs
In my question, it says "demo environment". By that I meant to imply that every machine in the demo will be virtualized, and will be on the internal switch. This, further, implies that I might be running it on a box connected to a production network. Allowing a demo DHCP server free reign on a production network is a big no-no.

comment DHCP Post-Install configuration wizard hangs
@joeqwerty irrelevant; this is all on the same box, and I don't want it having access to the external network. Exposing a DHCP server that way is bad.
