comment Legal threat, defamation from Italy and Germany
Whilst I accept your answer cheapstyle, some german managed to get a court order to shut down my website on some user posted rant against her, the site was also hosted by german ISP. they immediately shut it down. I relocated it to US.

thank you very much. TOm, I think I'll make that an email template. Because that's exactly what I want to tell them.

thanks for the awesome replies. It's somewhat helpful. TomTom, what happened when Copenagen won? What can they do to the outsider?

thats not possible in my case and again similarly tedious. But I do want to be sure that I can't get sued randomly everywhere in the world. I agree with both Tom and Bart's answer. I wish I could afford a lawyer and this seems very trivial, but in SG i will end up paying 100s of $ just for an hour. Further I think OnStartup is a better stackexchange to post this at. If I could just move the post over....

comment Which is best for Django? Lighttpd or Nginx? Or maybe something else?
what YT is not saying is that they have their own fork of lighty. Is true lighty has a well known memory leak problem. I believe they may have fixed it by now, but the rep persists.

I believe MySQL is now supported by GAE so I presume ORM will be as well. Though is true I has no experience trying it out. Django without ORM is like porn without torrents.

comment Cheap distributed hosting - will it improve service reliability?
I would like to add Dreamhost has some integration with Amazon CLoudfront/S3 and I have tested it to be working fine. Even if you dont want to use CLoudfront you can use the DH panel to update your files and only serve files via S3 endpoint instead of CloudFront Endpoint. Just noting so if it might help someone in the future.

comment Why is SSH password authentication a security risk?
Further to that using Keys is like having a long 2000 character password (well technically its even more strength) as compared to what you can key in manually in a terminal :D

comment CentOS - hardware raid 1 of two drives not being treated as single drive by fdisk
From what I understand when you have Hardware raid you dont really care about what OS sees as long as you don't try to mount the mirrored one in read write mode. Hardware should take care of the Raid set. But then I am not 100% sure. Definitely you do not have a true hardware raid but to the OS it should not matter. t is ok to see 3 devices as thats what you have. See in fstab how it is mounted. I used an IBM 7xxx series server before that had similar config and I use centos as well.

comment is it worth to use load balancer on web server/website
yes I understand. However I am speaking of connectivity to their data center. For example you may have 4 switches at home but only one internet access subscription and one point. I am hoping they don't. If I really want to throw money on a dedicated load balancer I would really start looking at AWS. It's easier to manage if you don't have expert admins at hand. MySQL failover is also provided by AWS and is only a click away.

More: note please go for CentOS6 it has considerably better and more up to date packages than CentOS5. appliance wise, get whatever you like. once your server is running you can add whatever. don't forget a regular DVD writer. It comes in handy when you need to backup stuff and network isnt helping. 2 gigabit ethernet is recommended (for DMZ and LAN) else one should suffice.

Great!. If in doubt about CPU I would check out cpubenchmark.net dont look at everything, just the Xeon we have been talking about. So you know exactly what to get performance/price basis. prices may differ in your area but its a good estimate. With your extra budget you could go for a branded pre packaged solution, so you can get warranty and replacement. i7 is good, in my experience however it could be pricier and Xeon is always great for the price. If you have cash left get Raid5, disk is cheap, put 3 in and you have 2/3rd space for use. 16GB ram preferable expandable. hth

awesome! fantastic idea to use vhost upstream. thinking out of the box. :) In my own answer below I posted a link to HTTPEchoModule I did not see echo_Random and this definitely helps. per-IP would be a good to have. I am looking at per referrer, but this is a good place to start. Thanks
