I'm a professional sysadmin in the Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina. I've been doing sysadmin work since 1996, I've worked for a smattering of companies including Red Hat, two academic institutions, a regional bank, and now a rail transportation and logistics company.

comment HTTP not redirecting to HTTPS, Router or Firewall Issue?
That's not what I'm asking. Can you see a connection when you come in to http:// ? I.e. drop a sniffer in place, can you see packets on it coming in from an external connection? You have to figure out where the http:// bits are broken, not just that they are broken (which you've already figured out).

Can you test to see if a connection is coming through on port 80 from the outside? It sounds like the firewall is simply blocking port 80, so the request is never getting to the web server to get rewritten.

comment PHP eats up all the memory
For all of these reasons and more, you should either fix the memory leak, force the client to fix the memory leak, or refuse to host the application until the memory leak is fixed. Seriously. Fix the application.

comment PHP eats up all the memory
You're much better off fixing the memory leak in the application than trying to limit PHP's memory usage at the OS level.

comment Use of rpm and yum for application installation in large installation environment
Package conflicts are addressed by RPM itself - if the RPM installs, there are no conflicts, and any future conflicts will be handled at that point. Honestly, the insisitence that application not be installed in the root volume should be waived for properly packaged RPMs, IMHO.

comment Best way to divide network?
I don't think there is a "best" way - there are simply ways that work better for your organization and ways that don't work for your organization. What matters is that the solution you choose is functional, reliable, and understandable to you, your bosses, and the people who will eventually be doing your job.

comment RESOLVED: yum says mod_cluster is installed, but the files are not there
On the system where /usr/share/java/mod_cluster-container-catalina.jar exists, what does rpm -qf /usr/share/java/mod_cluster-container-catalina.jar return?

Is implementing LDAP or NIS or some other centralized authentication scheme not an option?

comment Where does cPanel, Apache, or Nginx log php script access?
That search won't find POST requests, so you might have to change the final grep.

comment Powershell script for retrieving AD information using piped Get commands then copy to csv file but getting “append” error
What does a google search turn up when looking for that error message? Hint: the first result gives you the answer to your problem.

comment Install php 5.5 on centos with puppet
I'm not a Puppet user, but I would have to ask why you specify the path to a single package in the baseurl variable for an entire repo. It doesn't seem to me like that would work out too well for yum...

comment Fork a process inside a bash shell script
If you keep the exec, then your pstree output will remain the same - i.e. the way you don't want it. Sorry, but in this situation I don't see a way you can have your cake and eat it, too.

Keep in mind that as soon as the parent process exits, one or both of your sleeps will have a parent of init (pid 1), so don't get worried when you don't see them where you expect to in the pstree output.
