comment XEN Guest error cannot open display
You need a graphical display somewhere. It doesn't have to be on your hypervisor - you can SSH in to your hypervisor from another machine that does have an X server installed and simply forward X (for Red Hat and Fedora type Linuxes, use ssh -Y to accomplish this).

comment CentoOS - iptables issue when trying to enable specific IP
Is the MySQL process running and configured to listen to external requests? By default, MySQL is configured to only listen for UNIX socket connections, not network connections.

comment Apache SSL works but the config shows it's only listening on 80 not 443, how is it possible?
Apache has to start as root to bind to privileged (<1024) ports. It then drops privs to apache and runs as that user, so while I've never looked as lsof in this instance, I'm not entirely surprised to see root there.

comment Setting up a private server for Windows and Mac Computers
You need to hire someone now. Seriously, find a good systems administrator, and let them figure out how to get you what you want. Don't start down a path and then hire someone to fix it - that will be more work and headache than anyone wants to deal with.

comment Risk of starting NTP on database server?
@JonathanJ - NTP has difficulty correcting time skews greater than 5 minutes, and when set up per "standard" documentstion (of which there are several sets, admittedly) first syncs the time in one jump then maintains sync by adjusting drift.

comment Is using distro-bundled LAMP the best choice?
The answer to this question is so highly dependent on your individual specific use case that there is no good answer. It may even change from one project to another.

comment How to filter ldap user logins on linux?
You may need to modify/tweak pam_member_attribute to get this to work. At least, it looks that way to me.

comment Port not accessible on Linux server
Ok, something is wrong with your network. The web page is avialable, the port is open. This is demonstrated by the successful telnet on the server.

comment Port not accessible on Linux server
When you pull up the page in your browser, what is the error you get? If you simply get a blank page, what shows up in the window when you "View Source"?

Stop changing the port. Pick one port and use it.

comment Port not accessible on Linux server
Now you've gone and changed the port you're talking about. Are you trying to get to port 8080 or 8283 from the web browser?

comment Port not accessible on Linux server
Can you see port 8080 listening to 0.0.0.0 in your netstat output? If so, please add the output of iptables -L -n to your question.

comment Need to restart iptables after server shutdown
I'm betting the KVM startup scripts rewrite the iptables rules, then. What do the rules look like before you restart iptables after a server restart?
