I'm a professional sysadmin in the Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina. I've been doing sysadmin work since 1996, I've worked for a smattering of companies including Red Hat, two academic institutions, a regional bank, and now a rail transportation company.

You can also use LVM's volume mirroring capabilities to get the equivalent of RAID-1, rather than having half of each disk a PV for LVM and the other half a device for RAID.

comment HTTPS SSH Tunnel
He'll likely have to create some proxy exceptions, since using the proxy for everything won't let him get to resources that server B can't get to. Depending on the complexity of his work network, trying to use a proxy might be more effort than it's worth.

You could also go directly to server A: ssh -L 8443:localhost:443 -Nf [user@]<serverA>

comment Prevent reboot after yum update
A package can trigger a reboot, but only when it is installed or upgraded, not by simply being on a system. There is a cron job, or a job in a cron-like facility, that is causing the reboots. Seriously, check around in your organization - someone there knows what is causing it and how to stop it.

comment Prevent reboot after yum update
Based on your comment above, there is some sort of job, be it cron or a cron-like facility, that is causing the reboots. It is very much specific to your environment, and if there's nothing in any cron directories that can account for it, you'll really need to get the information on what causes it from your organization internally.

Scratch that - my proxy was responding for port 80. I now agree, it looks like a firewall.

Smells like an application issue - I can ping the IP and I get a response to a telnet on port 80, but I don't get a response to a GET / HTTP/1.0 after connecting via telnet. Did you recently push a new version or otherwise restart services?

Can you post the entire specfile? Or, can you post the results of find /home/user/rombuild/BUILDROOT -name config? (Or both, actually...)

comment How could I give KVM more hard disk space
Simply add more space to the filesystem where your KVM images are kept.

comment Can you change the virtual NIC type after building a VM?
It's a GUI limitation. Evidently, you can do so via PowerCLI - see @jlehtinen's answer for details.

Ok, then again, it is possible, but IMHO, you're doing it wrong.

comment Is it possible to have subnets for hosts connected to a switch?
The number of virtual interfaces isn't necessarily related to the number of physical interfaces. You can create multiple virtual interfaces on different networks on the same physical interface using your router's OS.

comment Rsync and ssh script
Yes, you really want SSH keys. Having good security on the server has no relation to the fact that using SSH keys is the solution you want to accomplish the task you've desribed in the way you describe it.

Dod you check out to /var/www/svn/myproject (or rather, run svn update in) after the updates were committed?
