Ah, express full backups should be quite large by default, they are full backups of your database, although SQL may "compress" them by leaving out unused pages. I thought you were talking about the network traffic required for an express full backup, which should be substantially less than the size of the database. Have you measured how much data is actually being transferred during express full backups?

Reorganizations and rebuilds of indexes can increase the space a backup uses because those actions would move pages around on disk, and every changed page needs to be backed up. So it is probably your nightly maintenance job that is causing the problem. Have you tried moving to running that job every other day or weekly, or tuning it for higher thresholds for reorganization/rebuild?

comment Do power settings matter for Hyper-V instances?
Oh shoot, I misread the question asker. You are correct, and I wrote my answer regarding power settings on the host OS affecting the guests, not guests affecting other guests. AFAIK, power settings on guests should not affect anything else, unless as you say, the power settings change how the guest uses the CPU (how it allocates threads on processors, how it sets power states on its devices and the CPU, etc.)

Alternatively, ask the question but in a non-"home network" setting. Bend the rules to make them suit you, I say, and ask forgiveness later.

Before this gets closed for being in the wrong place, I'd recommend trying out routers like Untangle and Vyatta. Yes, you can do what you are asking, and the easiest way is probably using VLANs.

It does not say you need to remove the licensing role so I would try just removing the Terminal Server role.

Fabian784, did my answer suffice or is there anything else you need? If it did, kindly mark my answer appropriately or let me know if there's anything else you need! :)
