comment Can KVM roll back changes to Virtual Disks automatically?
I have ultimately decided to use VirtualBox, but I think Allen has answered your question already - install Windows on the VM, then create another hard drive that uses the former as backing disk and mount it as the one and only drive. All Windows sees then is a single, normal hard drive it can write to.

comment Is there an extremely simple CMS with In-Place Editing?
Funny, I did try Concrete5 just a few hours after my post and, after checking out various other CMSes, decided to go with it. If possible, I would go for an even simpler solution, but out of everything I tried, only Mediawiki and Concrete5 fit the bill. Thanks for the suggestion!

Well, it's not completely off the chart - I'm looking for something that is (or can be made) simple for users. The install and configuration side isn't that much of an issue. Regarding Plone, I did take a look at it about two years ago, but the entire Python + Zope infrastructure was pretty difficult to grasp.

comment Windows 7, network connection with no default gateway: any way to change the “Unknown network” status?
I have to say that this is the best option I found so far. The registry hack that lets Windows think the network is the computer's connection to a domain circumvents security altogether and the other tip, adding a permanent route, would leave a nonsensical route around even when OpenVPN is shut down.

Btw, I'm just creating a Windows build slave to do daily builds for some of my projects. To prevent the build environment from getting tainted eventually I want to be able to undo any changes that have happened to the system effortlessly.

Thanks for pointing me to qemu-img. It seems I could use a read-only base image for the partition and recreate the differencing image when the VM is shut down.

And it's possible to exempt one of two virtual hard drives from this snapshot?
