comment PerfMon counters have different Page File % Usage values for _Total and C:\pagefile.sys for SQL Server on VM
I think it's more than appropriate for DBA.SE.

comment SQL Server stops regularly on every windows restart
What does the event log say? (Also, this should really be on Database Administrators SE dba.stackexchange.com)

comment Can virtualbox run on windows server 2008 r2
@tonyroth Please tell me what doesn't make sense. I thought my question quite clear. I'll clarify if need be. But it seems like ftiaronsem understood it perfectly.

@womble I find it best practice not to work haphazardly with OS and virtual environment installs.

comment Creating Domain Side Effects
When would the machine stop looking for domain credentials? In other words, say my DC goes away and I no longer want to keep seeing that I can still attempt to log into this now-nonexistent domain, how does that work? Make sense?

@jscott because I want to be able to log into the workstations as domain users.

comment Can't connect to a MSSQL server - “the server is not available”
@JonEgerton I think Database Administrators SE (dba.stackexchange.com) is a better resource for this sort of question.

@Top__Hat I can get Windows Server 2008. So you're saying I can run that on 32the bit machine then??

comment Windows Server 64 bit on a 32 bit Machine
@warren I am pushing this out to a desktop pc that is 32the bit. Just for learning/development and I wanted Windows Server to be the OS.

I am getting this through dreamspark and the minimum system requirements have specs for 32 bit systems as well. Why would that be??

comment SQL Server database connections being dropped intermittently
Why MSDTC?? I'd look directly towards the database for direct errors or something along those lines. The timeout for your instance in that one environment could be shorter, causing it to happen faster. Hard telling, but it looks like SQL Server is shutting down the connection before you want it to.

comment SQL Server database connections being dropped intermittently
Why the votes to close?? I think this is a code issue, not a database engine one.

What's your definition of a drop in the bucket? :) please give me a rough estimate if you can.

I have searched but I can't seem to find how to get a TechNet subscription? Hopefully it isn't the financial burden of MSDN.

This is really a question for Server Fault.

It's actually a ClickOnce application that is trying to access it.

comment Local Security Policy blocking non Local Admins from Accessing machine.config
I should have specified that. I did look at that, and even set a particular user with full control. I still get access denied with that. The only way to get access to the machine.config is to be a local admin. NTFS permissions tell me I should be granted access, but it gives me access denied still.
