Software Engineer in Cambridge, UK.

These days I work mostly in Python and JavaScript on Linux. Have done copious C++ in the past, mostly for Windows. Currently employed as Tech Lead of the Publishing Team at Velocix, building Content Delivery Networks for ISPs and Content Owners.

My (slightly dusty) CV has more history and my blog does very occasionally get updated. I also have a twitter account that I've not worked out what to do with yet: @daybarr

revised An upstream response is buffered to a temporary file
I don't think the ubuntu tag is relevant here, as this is a generic nginx issue. Ubuntu was turning up as the main tag used in the HTML title.

revised How to serve 410 from Apache rather than a 404
Fix link to Mark's blog after (archive.org after his infosuicide) and take a guess at what it is that was tried, instead of having blankness.

comment Why are NginX and Lighttpd not affected by Slowloris?
Minor correction: nginx does not use worker threads to achieve high number of connections. From nginx.org: "Nginx doesn't rely on threads to handle requests. Instead it uses a much more scalable event-driven (asynchronous) architecture"

revised Is it possible to run varnish with both memory and disk storage?
Fix typo: mallow => malloc. Add a link to Varnish Book first, which is updated more often that the 3 year old blog post.

comment Open Source alternative to “Google Appliance” for intranet search?
Not much coming out of that project recently. See the Is Flax Alive? discussion on the flax-discuss group from July 2010 and the latest post from September 2011 which got no response.
