comment Why `wc -c` always count 1 more character?
You're assuming that there is any sort of control over the output process.

comment Yum command not found - Plesk CentOS5
The problem is not that it has CentOS 5. The problem is that you believe that a 2-year-old package for yum is not adequate.

Why do you believe that you need a more recent version of yum? CentOS 5 is ooold.

comment Is there a debian-sys-maint equivalent in centos?
Major version upgrades must be performed by the user manually, since a given distro version will not contain a major version upgrade. The other operations are left to the sysadmin to prepare for.

comment Bash cut and insert
Yes. Don't do this in a shell script, since there's no sane way to escape metacharacters.

comment How to best deploy applications using git hooks, without having git repository on target server?
Perhaps you could package it and make only the packages available.

It's however you identify whatever you currently SSH to in the middle. The port there is for the far machine.

comment Where to find source of an Amazon EC2 compatible kernel
"Note that you can often find a kernel source tree (or a symlink to the right place) at /lib/modules/uname -r/build2. For example, if you were running the default Fedora 3 kernel (linux-2.6.9-1.667) you would find the kernel tree in /lib/modules/2.6.9-1.667/build." That path is created by kernel-devel, so I'd say it's fine.

You don't need the kernel's source, only its -devel package.

Why not build it as a module?

comment What is the different of 64-bit Architectures? Why there is more than 1 standard?
To be fair, Intel's was called EM64T and then IA-32e and then Intel64. And it still exists.
