comment Openldap ppolicy and pam_ldap interoperability
@David OpenLDAP is an open-source project run by the OpenLDAP Foundation. Development has not ceased: there have been releases this year. You're thinking of something else.

comment Distributing a subtree into different LDAP servers
Nevertheless there is no answer that doesn't require the OP to define further subtrees. It could also be accomplished via the LDAP back end.

comment Distributing a subtree into different LDAP servers
What criteria would you use when deciding which server a chunk of this flat structure is on? Question doesn't really make sense.

comment What does LAST_ACK mean, as a State value in netstat?
It doesn't 'send a LAST_ACK to the client'. It sends a FIN and is presently waiting for an ACK, having already received a FIN and sent an ACK. It's the last state after closing the connection.

comment What does LAST_ACK mean, as a State value in netstat?
Not correct. You're describing CLOSE_WAIT.

comment Ubuntu 14.04, OpenLDAP TLS problems
Everything you have posted demonstrates that the SSL part of your configuration is working correctly. Otherwise you could not possibly get LDAP-specific error codes returned by the server. Your question remains unclear.

comment How to disable password change for openldap user?
Just search for 'man slapo-ppolicy'. It's all there at OpenLDAP.org.

comment Tomcat - how to store sessions in DB immediately?
@shabunc Look again. '-1 means sessions are not backed up'. That's not what you asked about.

comment Automatically create LDAP groups for each new system user according to its username
Why? It's a strange requirement. You already have the user entry, why do you think you need two? And a user isn't a group. Who are the other members going to be, other than himself? And if none, what use is a group with only one member? This is sounding like an XY problem.

@r.tanner.f Many thanks for some actual information.

comment VMWare NAT releasing SYN packets from guest but not admitting SYN/ACK packets to guest
The purpose of asking here is to discover whether anybody knows, and whether there is a workaround. Do you have some evidence that nobody does? Not an answer. -1

Well that's the question. Is it a bug? Or is there some mitigation?

comment Getting the LDAP password from the LDAP Directory
@Isaac It is hashed and compared to the hashed password. SSHA is a secure hash algorithm, not an encryption algorithm.

comment Why does Windows have such a loose processor affinity
Context switching is a thread yielding to another thread, or the operating system yielding to a user-space process, or the reverse. Technically it means reloading the virtual memory mapping registers, register sets, PC, etc.

comment What's the difference between ip address 0.0.0.0 and 127.0.0.1?
@womble Remarks like that are unhelpful. To clarify, what is it then? What do you think is excluded?

comment RDP application icon quality comparison
2008 probably just defaults to a lower screen resolution for RDP sessions. See if you can change it in the normal way.

Do you really mean remove the group, or remove his membership of the group?

Why is your server not allowing you to add groups? This is a basic function of any LDAP server.
