@RafaelPontes if you can see that output from the ps command is that the daemon is running, try @RolandoMySQLDBA solution... you can also check the configuration file (usually /etc/my.cnf) and be sure the mysqld daemon is using that socket (/tmp/mysql.sock)

comment Is FreeNAS 8 ready for production? or Any sugg. for a free fileserver?
@kce As I understand this is about FreeNAS 8 and the other question is old and answered when there were older versions of FreeNAS so I think is not a duplicate and I find it quite interesting. Anywa the other tread was a useful reading also.

The "Less known Solaris Features" tutorials are also a good source to complement that list.

you don't need a DNS server to connect them. But you can always use some free dns servers (like google's 8.8.8.8)

comment LIGHTTPD - How to set the vhost's permissions
@Damiano, you are welcome. As ACL is a more complex system is expected to have some impact on performance, a quick search took me to this where you can see some numbers on Linux ACL performance, anyway if you can the best is to run your own benchmarks and see the impact it has on your setup.

comment LIGHTTPD - How to set the vhost's permissions
@Damiano, well... ACL gives you more fine grained permissions... so in a way it's more flexible, and you can set more precisely who can do what, if your setup needs this kind of selection, that would be a better approach, if not, traditional unix permissions are well know and work fine.

@Damiano, check your other question for the explanation.

@Damiano other option can be make the files from the vhosts owned by the group lighttpd, and give rwxr----- permissions to the files and rwxr-x--- to the directories, this way you will limit the reading access between vhosts to the members of lighttpd group. If you don't need to separate vhosts in groups for any other reason (like project separation or something like that) this can be a good solution for you.

That is good for splitting the security among the different vhosts, but the web server needs at least reading access to the files to actually serve them.

comment How to change the current user's domain password without being domain admin?
I think, for security reasons it would be a good idea to also ask (and verify) the current password.
