comment FTP Server with MySQL access, and POST notification
Thanks for the suggestion - i've spent the last 20 minutes reading the website and support docs and cannot find any suggestion of a POST on upload, but I agree its very well spec'd. I've sent them an email, asking the question.

comment Linking sub-domains to specific SANs
Course, I was forgetting that SAN is the inter connection, not the actual device! I did say I wasn't a server manager! Thanks. Purely for my own reference, can you explain the 'significantly secured' comment further? Going off what you have said, Im guessing from a security aspect the NAS (or it may be a DAS) box is different to built in HDDs/SSD?

comment Unknown issue, brings MySQL down and requires a full reboot of the server
Ah! Secret to good server management - always keep your eye on how full your hard drives are! A backup process had filled the HDD to 100%, hence nothing would restart on the reboot! Durr moment! lol

comment vsFTPd on Amazon Linux EC2 instance
@cyberx86 - thanks for that i'll give that a try. What min/max port numbers would you specify? I've got Port 21 set in the security settings for FTP, so i'll set 20 as well!

comment Working with Dell PowerVault MD3600 SAN
thanks for that - very useful. Excuse my ignorance, but presumably when your talking of the network switches between the servers and SAN, you mean the same switches that we have located in the top of the Server Racks, that connect the servers to the web?

comment Rackspace Cloud Files - limiting possible connections
Hi k00k, thanks for updating the question! Interesting reply from Rackspace, and as you say, if Akamai do it, it should be trickle down to Rackspace!

comment Rackspace Cloud Files - limiting possible connections
Hi Jim,Thanks for the comment. I'd come to that conclusion. The only way I could see around it was to 'grab' the file back to the server at the time of page load, making it available with a temporary filename, which is flagged for removal after say 60 minutes. The downside is it potentially slows the page load time as well as adds extra resource utilisation for minimal if any benefit. Plus it gets extra complicated in a multi-server load balanced environment!

comment Running multiple copies of the script - using cores or simply slowing the server down?
@Bittrance: Its got a variety depending on what the message queue asks - basically from MySQL insert/update statements for non urgent stats info through to image resizing and copying to a backup location.

comment Is httpd / BIND required for a server running Gearman/Python?
I put the comment in the wrong place!! Thanks for that. I'm not a server guy, more programming! Is there a yum package for the BIND client then?
