I wear many hats at my workplace.

Primarily a Database Developer, but also programmer, web designer, DBA, sysadmin, and general office bitch.

I work for a small custom software house in Sydney, Australia. We use all manner of tools - but mainly MSSQL and a Rapid Application Tool called eDeveloper uniPaaS Magic XPA.

Especially as most (all?) web-based SMS providers offer an SMTP delivery method, just email +61987654321@accountname.smsprovider.com

comment Broken remote desktop connections
We saw this problem on-and-off on a particular Windows 2003 Terminal Server with Vista clients. Eventually we migrated everyone off the server and re-commissioned it.

Testing in a lab is nice, but when you have your superiors screaming for blood, bad things can happen in live environments.

comment Difference between SSL products
A scam hey? Well that makes a lot of sense, because I couldn't see anything except insurance and graphical differences between them. And $50/year/certificate adds up to quite a bit considering our SSL is not going to cover any financial stuff...

Iinteresting. I know I've had to hand over proof that we own certain domains and whatnot when our guys have ordered them for our work sites - this is my first venture on my own. Anyway our users already trust us implicitly and the SSL is just for their own peace of mind, so I think I'll just grab a cheapo one. Thanks for the background!

Sounds like on that sort of a system it's never, ever, ever going to happen.

comment Cheap servers, or expensive servers
He's not talking about a cheap server though, he's talking about a cheap desktop. There can be big differences there. Not always, but often.
