I wear many hats at my workplace.
Primarily a Database Developer, but also programmer, web designer, DBA, sysadmin, and general office bitch.
I work for a small custom software house in Sydney, Australia. We use all manner of tools - but mainly MSSQL and a Rapid Application Tool called eDeveloper uniPaaS Magic XPA.

How do you deal with bosses that think you're slacking off? If only you could go up to your CEO as he's on his way to his Mercedes S65 and ask him "So, what the hell do you do all day anyway, besides bang your secretary?" |

How do you deal with bosses that think you're slacking off? btw I'm in no way implying that a sysadmin should be able to achieve 100% user satisfaction, it was a tongue-in-cheek comment that doesn't translate well to the written form! |

How do you deal with bosses that think you're slacking off? Well, if there's a pothole in it, then the road can't be considered smooth, can it. It's got a pothole in it. That said, if the occasional pothole where I live was the only problem with the road the suspension on my car might last longer. |

Network throttling for large file upload process If this is an application you are developing yourself then this is a question for Stack Overflow. They will be able to help you with this at app level so that no system admin work is required. |

ADSL2+ vs Fibre Hmm, for $1000 Internode (who I use at home) offer SHDSL 10Mb/50Gb. Given apples:apples that makes fibre seem even more rediculously over-priced. |

Should you discharge a Li-ion battery all the way? There are so many questions about batteries on SF now hopefully this will be the last one. oldSkool has a very valid point about leaving it overnight. Li-Ion batteries have a limited number of cycles they can go through, and leaving it in overnight performs a charge/discharge/charge/discharge/charge/discharge, effectively wearing the battery out without even using it. |

ADSL2+ vs Fibre We are within 500m of the exchange, so we should get good sync, and with M-Annex we should get 2mb up or thereabouts... thanks for the info! |

Connecting over a VPN what is remote server IP? Pinging a server and being able to contact the server are two different things. Just because it won't respond to ping does not indicate that it is not online... Although if it was responding to ping in the past and it's now not then it's a pretty good bet... |
