comment How can a Linux Administrator improve their shell scripting and automation skills?
I wish I had this much opportunity to do scripting where I work. I have to make do with self-study.

comment What is the best way to run a remote ssh command in background but still displaying?
From the site, mosh (mobile shell) looks like a promising new tool. It's very new, though.

comment Are self-signed SSL certificates secure?
This would also be a reasonable approach if the server would be accessed by a limited number of users who could directly contact you to verify the certificate -- members of your family, or the staff of a small company, as examples.

comment 10 servers to administer and I'm a history major
Simply put, you can't replace two experienced IT professionals with one untrained volunteer. It's irresponsible of management to create this situation.

comment Apache SSL - self signed certificate
Also, level 1 certificates from StartSSL are available at no cost. If this is a public-facing server, then there's a reasonable expectation that your TLS certificate will be signed by a recognized certifying authority. Self-signed certificates are only reasonable for internal use, testing, or for limited external use.

comment Help resolve a SRVFAIL DNS issue
It does look like it's a lack of communication between your ISP's DNS and your site host's DNS. I'm used to SERVFAIL being associated with invalid DNSSEC information -- could that be involved?
