comment Reimage several of the same model PC by copying the hard disk
When we're imaging 50 new computers, we can't go around and install Flash on each one manually after the imaging is done. I suppose it depends what's most important...efficiency and time savings now or the potential for time savings later. I would argue that just about everything needs updates over time--Office, Acrobat, antivirus, etc.

comment How does Microsoft TechNet Subscription work?
The answer above is incorrect stating you can use a Technet sub for development purposes. That is incorrect, Microsoft clearly states in quite a few places that Technet subs CANNOT be used for development. MSDN subs are for development purposes. From Technet license terms at technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/cc294422.aspx

comment Flu Season - Remote Office Users
+1000 - I'm never a fan of throwing money at a problem, but squillman's is the best answer IMO. The minute you start installing software on employees' home computers or they use them to RDP, you start "supporting" those computers. If you have 5 employees with this setup, you'll be dealing with 5 home computers is various states of disarray. My favorite phone call from employees: "...my kid was on my home computer last night and now the VPN doesn't work..."

+1, though I still don't like the idea of users logging in from their home computers that their kids use to search for free clipart and free desktop backgrounds and are infected with more malware than they'll ever know. Squillman's solution is the best imo, but if they must use their home computers this method minimizes you having to deal with issues on their home computers.

comment What to do with an out-of-warranty Barracuda Spam/Web filter?
@ewwhite - I'm with ya, but it sounds like it's the way Barracuda works. It's relatively common for manufacturers to make you "catch up" when you renew support if it has lapsed, but not allowing you to transfer ownership would definitely make me boil. Take your $1800 elsewhere. I second Mike's recommendation of offloading spam filtering to a hosted service like Postini. It's cheap and filters out the junk before it even hits your server. Though this wouldn't do your web filtering.

Go into Configure Port in the printer properties and disable SNMP, restart print spooler, then see if it shows the printer online

comment What is the most effective solution you used to label cables?
Say no to flag labels (for the reasons others have mentioned). Invest in a Brady labeler. MUCH better than the $50 labelers from Office Depot....more expensive but after you do the first 5 labels, you'll come back to thank me.
