comment Allow certain urls to be available on HTTP too when redirecting everything to HTTPS
Ah yes, I didn't have the root directive in this server block. Added it and works now. Thanks! :)

I meant its throwing 404 on a file which exists. The same file is accessible on HTTPS.

Makes sense. Is there a syntax error in it? Caused nginx reload to fail.

comment Apache: Seting up virtual servers on my local machine for access from other computers in my LAN
To add, ping desktopIP works, so I don't think its a firewall issue. Apache on desktop doesn't respond, what else could be missing?

I have exactly this setup, but they don't work. When I ping them from client like ping dev.example.net, it does show that its picking up the local IP from the hosts file but it doesn't get any replies from the server(desktop machine hosting the localhost). What would you suggest to troubleshoot? I am using Ubuntu 11.10 on both machines.

@voretaq7 Oops! I added the output. I think there is a mismatch somehow. I am using both RSA & DSA somehow. Not sure how I ended up with using both.

I have the standard names only id_rsa & id_rsa.pub. Do I still need to do anything with ssh-add?

@TiZon Thanks a lot so far! I think its almost ready. I managed to get to the same point using exim and your instructions (tried yours afterwards, after removing exim). If I send a test mail using echo "This is a test." | mail -s Testing someone@somedomain.com, I get the email, but if I use PHP mail function, it return boolean false. Do I need to make changes in some PHP config file too? Or that should be a different question possibly out of scope of serverfault?

@TiZon Thanks! That did it. Any pointers for a simple tutorial for setting things up so that I can send mail. Which one do you suggest out of sendmail and others?

comment DNS resolving error
May be your firewall or something, I can see that fine. I have added 'bankpo.in.' as the hostname and now I believe DNS will take full day to propagate, right? This alone should fix my problem, right? Once the site is up, I can get onto other things you mentioned.

Also the question does have a screenshot for adding the reverse DNS entry. I can just enter the hostname and it will set that as a reverse dns entry.
