comment Compile Python 3.1.1 with --enable-shared
Chances are you want /usr/local/lib[64] in your LD path, because of what /usr/local is. That it isn't by default in some distributions is perhaps a bit of an oversight. Check out the FHS if you don't understand what I'm talking about, here.

comment SSH Connection dropping as soon as I log in
Please add '-v' to your ssh command, or perhaps even '-vv' - this will enable verbosity and you might get a clue as to why your connection is being closed.

comment Time cron not working
You should use 'sntp' instead of ntpdate if you can. OpenSuSE actually yells at you now if you try to use ntpdate: "The ntpdate program is deprecated and should not be used any more. To quote the upstream ntp developers: "The functionality ntpdate offered is now provided by the ntpd daemon itself. If you call ntpd with the command line option -q it will retrieve the current time and set it accordingly." Please check the Network Time Protocol (NTP) daemon man page and support.ntp.org/bin/view/Dev/DeprecatingNtpdate for further information."

'everyone' means exactly that. You can't do "everyone" except for Bob and Jane.

comment “tail -f” style web application
Splunk has a high footprint compared to what you would see with a simple script. I am using it for the moment - it's like using a backhoe to blank a flower.

Hmm, you're right. I don't think this is possible.
