comment Can I purchase 2 wildcard certificates with the same subject from 2 different CA vendors?
thanks. we're not currently using it so not import to the question at hand but it may be useful to others. I'd read about public key pinning a while back but I didn't realize I could utilize a version of it by just setting a value in the http header ( developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Security/… ).

comment Using an SSL certificate in multiple locations
Just to add to this - some CA's (eg Symantec) license their certificates per server and some have no limits on the number of servers a cert is installed on. Check the terms and conditions of your potential vendor prior to purchase to make sure it matches your intended usage.

comment Access to the site hosted in a virtual machine
you can use Application Request Routing / URL rewrite to have IIS act as a reverse proxy fronting your VM. your VM could then be exposed on a local-only network / port but externally the users would be hitting IIS on port 80 with whatever name you wanted.

comment IIS bindings: www.domain.com is working but domain.com not
on the face of it - that should work. I haven't done much with Azure specifically but I have run some sites that have both the form of domain.com (A record) and sub.domain.com (as a C-Name) and with bindings require host names and not had any issues. (not sure about FTP - I don't think I've ever required host name for those). Do you have an azure VM - or are you using one of the web app services? perhaps there's a setting you need to define on the Azure interface somewhere ?

comment IIS 8.5 Setting Custom Error Pages and Redirects
how do your websites all share the same web.config? all websites are mapped back to the same folder on disk? or do you mean by multiple websites that they are subfolders under a single web root? it is pretty common for each website or even multiple applications/folders under a single website to have their own custom error pages.
