comment Block SMTP session with sender domain which doesn't itself accept SMTP connection
The address is no doubt listed as “belongs to a range of addresses assigned to ADSL service”. While true, these lists appear to be misused as “nobody should ever be making SMTP connections from these addresses”, which is an abuse of the list; the address is permanently assigned to this service and is valid for use. So, the problem is the misconfiguration of the remote server blocking this address, not the list itself.

The explicit reason given, in a majority of these cases, is “your host is on an ADSL connection”. That's true, but seems to imply that the address is dynamic, which is false. To block merely because the client is assigned to an ADSL range is a misconfiguration.

Thanks, but this doesn't address what I've written. The mail server is existing for a while, and has adequate protection against unsolicited junk. I'm talking about adding a new restriction onto an existing mail server.

Worse, this will appear to work but will fail to show any accounts or groups that are not present in those files.

From the timing, I know that the difference in behaviour becomes evident too early for the operating system to be a factor. But I'd neglected that there is also a different boot loader; that bears further investigation. Thank you.
