Effort

I'm not a programmer by nature but after some years on the road I've realized that this industry is much like a two-person donkey: you've got the front-end, back-end, and you better make sure it meets in the middle or your ass is going nowhere.

@Joe yes we did force-remove it. Interesting, so does Riak automatically trade data from a downed node to a new one entering the cluster using force-replace? I thought that command was reserved for bringing a downed node back up after IP change, but that's hugely helpful if it does do that.

comment Is Node.js mature for enterprise security?
Wow +1 for assessing the entire stack and options. Although I never ended up using Node.js this is still a great resource for future projects! Never heard of skipfish, thanks for expanding my horizon :)

Well of the two answers yours is the most accurate. Turns out the firewall in our provider was designed to do a lot of bloated functions that just interfere with the websocket. thanks for the insight.

Well unfortunately I found out that the PSH flag was already being set by my websocket server. I'll have to look deeper. The UDP was a great idea but unfortunately it isn't part of the websocket spec.

I have tested with multiple clients/connections but not multiple locations. However, the problem is non-present in the standard IP (old) environment. I am using Wireshark but didn't think about retransmits or window zeroing. I'm going to do a little more research and get back with a response after some testing :) thx!

PSH might be a reasonable option since I think we can program that into the websocket server itself. My only thought towards UDP is I don't think it is supported by websockets (see stackoverflow.com/questions/4657033/…). Will respond soon once I can test some of this out!
