I have two favourite past-times: writing video games, and using code to explore ideas in new fields.
I've been writing toy video games since I was 14 and am currently working on a side project that will hopefully launch soon and become something that people enjoy playing. The technology I enjoy working with the most is HTML5 Canvas with CoffeeScript and Ruby since they really allow me to explore ideas without having to worry about performance or typing or stuff like that.
I also like to apply programming to fiddle with new ideas in other fields. My Master's thesis in Economics was using programming to provide a new perspective on labour markets that is completely different than what the typical economist uses to analyze markets (in fact the hardest part of my research was finding people who have attempted to use something other than the standard macroeconomic models).
