comment Discover other instances within chef recipe on rightscale
@dawud actually I haven't found any function or such to discover other hosts so I've no idea in how that could be done. In regular chef you use the search function but since rightscale doesn't use that you can't use that

@0xFF this pastebin.com/YGr9YDi6 the only different is that it uses a bridge, but trust that this one works as it respond to ping

i've tried to use pastebin.com/TCQa1FCu and set ifconfig eth0 promisc, still no logs, packets seems to be dropped

i'm not sure about that, i have another server with eth0 with mac 90:e6:x:x:x:x which is on a bridge (vmbr0), the bridge uses the same mac as eth0 and i've added a vmbr0:0 ip, i can see it correctly receive packets to that ip, but the packets has a different mac as destination 02:00:x:x:x:x and they're not dropped.

You're right, check this paste pastebin.com/10R7xngE the mac is different, that's why it drops the packets? can be that?

@mgorven firewall is iptables based, actually packets to second ip netiher arrives to iptables as they're dropped before by the kernel

@0xFF so i should setup using ifconfig eth0:0 instead of just an ip addr add? btw, i have other servers with the same ip configuration and they works, i just wanted to debug why this isn't working

@patrick time ago i've set with different netmask and they've closed server for not needed arp packets.. The additional ip is just to make machine respond to request coming to thAt ip, not reach external machines using that ip as source..
