comment Can you join a computer to two domains?
You will have to do some edits so people in you company dont get your home domain listed on the login menu dropdown list, unless you dot care.

Or you could do a site-to-site VPN (if allowed by your administrator) and set up a domain trust (if allowed by your administrator)?... now ive seen.. you are the sys admin, so you could do it this way...

comment Problem accessing Windows shares when using a domain
Sorry been busy, im not sure about your question. But if your computer cant talk to the domain controller then you might want to check your policies for cached profiles. For example, if you unplug your computer for the network it will still let you log in without having to contact the dc (if you have it set up that way), not sure what happens when the password has been expired for a while...

For the password expiration to be notify check your group policies. Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Local Policies->Security Options, 'Interactive Logon: Prompt User to Change Password'. You can define here how many days warning should it appear in advance to your users.

They do renew automatically, unless the computer cant authenticate to the DC, if it cant then you wont be able to use the DNS server hence why you need to type the IP address instead. All this proves is if when the password expires the computer is or not able to authenticate to the DC.

comment VLAN over WAN
just a little mistake... happens when you look at too many websites at once. Meant to say that the router has got Optional Layer 2 switching support. But I read that is better to have a switch with Layer 3, as it works faster because they are basically "routers" built on "switching" hardware. Rather than just a router given switching support.... Hence the question, should i use the vlans from the router or get a switch to do it and how to expand it over wan if using the switch behind a router.. Thanks for all the info, think ive got enough to start drawing my plans. Nico

The Asa assings VLAN id automatically but im using seperate ethernet interface for each LAN segment. You also say that it is a bad design. what would be a good one then? Thanks.
