Update: Executing STOP SLAVE; stops the restarting behaviour and allows for maintenance tasks to be executed. I'm currently running mysql_upgrade just to be safe.

Everything works fine when I use for example Midnight Commander to access the FTP. As far as I'm concerned it has to be an issue with urlftpfs on my end.
