Can you give an example, or point me to a page showing simple examples on how to use procmail? I'm a noob at this sort of thing.

It's 0...so must be something else then. Thanks for the tip.

comment Troubleshooting linux server reboots?
mbmon gives "No Hardware Monitor found" but after upgrading my kernel, lm-sensors gives CPU core temperature now, which seems reasonable (average around 35 C, goes up to 55C if I run a benchmark on all cores). Will try memtest when I figure out how to run it on a remote server.

Is there a way to get it to dump the kernel panic to disk or to screen? I'm worried that it's just rebooting and not saving the error messages anywhere. Is there a 'debug mode' or something I can enable?

comment Troubleshooting linux server reboots?
Nobody else but me logging in (double checked the IP even from last). It's on an UPS, so I don't think it's a power issue, unless the server power supply is failing. I don't think it's heat issues, at least the server is not heavily loaded, and the current temperature is quite low (CPU at 36C), I'll start logging the temperature though.

I don't have access to the switch itself, can't make any changes to it.

Can you give me some more info on using iptables accounting? Maybe an example or pointer to a tutorial or something? thanks.

Will ntop allow me to filter out traffic to/from certain IP ranges?

These are dedicated servers, not colo, so I can't install my own hardware.

comment Apache can't be restarted after changes to the configuration file
@Sharifhs You told us what you have done, but you haven't said anything at all what went wrong. Does the server start? It serving pages? Are PHP files being run or just returned as source code? Is it giving any errors? etc etc etc. Without more info, no real help can be given besides wild guesses.

comment how do I make solaris shell more familiar for a linux user?
@Chris S: I don't think that particular effect has anything at all to do with the particular OS. People are used to what they know, changing things around is annoying, makes things harder, etc. Doesn't matter if it's Windows->Linux, Linux->Solaris, Windows->Mac, etc.

comment Hardware RAID Controller Support for SSD TRIM
This is not correct. It supports TRIM for drives NEXT TO a RAID, not IN a RAID. For example, you have 2 1TB drives in RAID, and then a SSD by itself, all three drives connected to the Intel chipset. The intel controller would be in RAID mode, but the SSD itself was not in a RAID. Notice how the page specifically says: TRIM isn't supported for SSDs participating in a RAID array

Oh my bad, I misread 'batch' as 'bash'. Well, I'll leave this post here in case someone wants to iterate in bash in windows in the future.

If you have 32,767 tables in your database, you're doing it wrong.

comment Monitoring physical RAM errors on Linux
This places extra load on the server and may even cause running services to fail with out of memory errors. ECC memory as mentioned by voretaq7 is the way to go.

comment Slow down individual connections passing through a Linux router?
Unfortunately neither Putty (interactive SSH client) nor Filezilla (file transferring SFTP client) set TOS TCP/IP flags. So my firewall cannot differentiate between them.

comment Can I make TCP/IP session to run less than 60 seconds?
If you understand why it enters the TIME_OUT state, then you must understand why this is necessary to prevent other attacks and problems. You can reduce this timeout, but there are other consequences to doing that.

comment Website doesn't work when missing “www”
@jeff: Please tell us the actual problem. "doesn't work" doesn't tell us enough information. Does the hostname resolve to an IP address? Does it connect to the server? etc etc.

@kbyrd: I don't understand your nit. How is that different from what he wrote? Are you confused about the trailing period? It's supposed to be there, however some DNS servers will automatically add it for you if you forget it. But it's good to put it there just in case.
