comment Squid setup on Amazon EC2 - proxy server not working
Google's APIs have many built in constraints incuding timing. Can you expand on your Amazon EC2 Squid/Google lash up? The issue might not be the proxy if a Google API is the only target. Have you tried other web servers and do they give the same result?

comment Capture errors in python cronjobs
Understood, thus my reference to 'traceback'. So you need to get that syntax error out of the crontab event black hole (no logging from the crontab will reflect the issue) via some exception handling inside your python script. Once you get that addressed the issue is passing the details to a persistent log, mail, and/or stderr. The referenced exception handling test would be a good start.

comment How do I setup VNC (remote desktop) on CentOS 6?
+1 but would add an update to the iptables to open up the port described in /etc/sysconfig/vncservers (say 5902 if uncommenting the default :2 setting).

comment How to prevent users from copying or printing files?
The notebook programs and clipboard work with unencrypted information no matter the encryption used on the hard drive. The drive data is unencrypted when fetched for the program and available to print, copy, e-mail, etc.

If you are working with a CPU that does not support virtualization extensions then KVM is a no go.

comment Amazon EC2: Getting charged for usage of micro free tier
I've been using EC2 micro instances for several months without problem. I average 35 cents a month due to storing a couple of images. How many instances are you running, are they all micro, and how many images are you storing? I have found the billing explanations clear have you doubled checked the details?

Seems that does not work now either. I will try to find a better reference to this method of rolling your own SMF entry to address the known shortfall...

Check Google for "Configuring the BIND 9 DNS server with Solaris 10 SMF" should be first result and cached...
